I forgot to mention earlier that I essentially got out of jury duty. There were two cases scheduled. The first was a civil case, but they settled it just before they started jury selection. That case was there because the original, a criminal case, lacked the defense's key witness who didn't show. That one was postponed as well.

Bottom line, I get my $20 and can't be called for jury duty the rest of this year.

hehe, the $20 is rocks! No wonder people love jury duty.

Yeah, compares really well to the hourly amount I can normally bill!

I was happy to have gotten out of jury duty a year ago as well. Not that I don't want to serve, necessarily, but because driving into and parking in Detroit sucks big time, especially with construction. The $20 they pay is halfway eaten up by parking.

Even though Ididn't get called for a jury, I had to sit there from 8 am until 3 pm, and we could not leave the room with the only lunch options being a couple vending machines. They made those of us who hadn't been picked by 1 pm stick around "just in case".

Wow, that's really lame. Even when I was selected for the jury (two years ago) we were free to go out for lunch where ever we wanted to. I'm glad we don't live in Cuyahoga county, because Medina county's courts are in a classic old building on a square with a ton of parking. A lot easier to deal with.
