People are not going to stand up and say the kids should have had guns. Even a complete dumbass would realize that is a bad idea.

Sure they will. They said it about the teachers at Columbine. "They" includes some pretty stupid people.

Teachers having guns at Columbine and tens of thousands of students packing on college campus is very different.

It's going to be interesting to see what bullshit VT comes up with to protect students from now on.

It's interesting that one of the stories I read said that students were urged to change their Facebook status to something like "I'm OK" because their e-mail system is overwhelmed.

This is nothing short of terrifying on so many levels.

But I have to agree that there is little doubt in my mind that this tragedy will spark once again the never-ending debate about gun control vs. every human on the face of the Earth bearing arms to protect themselves.

And it will also likely create debates about whether VT did enough in the face of the terror or did enough to prevent such an event in the first place and whether they have put enough safeguards in place to prevent future unpredictable events.

The truth is that it is the human condition to want to blame someone when things like this occur and to point a finger to a source that would have prevented it from occuring in the first place, whether realistic or not.

The alternative for people can be too frightening, no matter how true it is... that is that bad things happen and as long as people have free will they will be able to do bad things if they choose.

There really is no one to blame except the shooter. VT could not have done anything to prevent it.

But yeah, the debate about weapons will certainly come up again.

Here's the thing with gun control.

Bad guys will still have them. Banning, outlawing or preventing the use of firearms wouldn't have changed this situation any more than the mindset that the other kids having guns would have.

Stuff happens. It doesn't make it any less tragic, but no one is to blame here except some idiot who snapped and let it out in this way.

It's happened before and it will happen again.

Yeah, and I don't think they will say the kids should have had guns, and even if people do say that, I don't think it will get much attention because the vast majority of us realize that shit is ridiculous. They didn't say that about the people at case Jeff, when that shooter shot up the buildings there!

Mark my words, folks. The media is already setting up the "blame game". Right, wrong, or otherwise, they are already hinting about the two hour time frame between shootings and the fact that classes were not cancelled.

I don't agree with it, but as I said before, this is how these things go.
